Description

Fractional resurfacing is a new modality for laser treatment that creates numerous microscopic thermal injury zones with controlled width, depth, and density that are surrounded by a reservoir of spared epidermal and dermal tissue, allowing for rapid repair of laser induced thermal injury.

CO2 laser delivers energy approximately 0.5mm deep into the vaginal skin and creates tiny, white, ablated dots of damaged tissue on the mucosal tissue inside the vaginal canal. As with other fractional laser techniques used in aesthetics, the principle is that this stimulates the healing response in the non-ablated (non-damaged) tissue surrounding each micro-dot, and thus new collagen formation results and the thickness of the vaginal lining is improved.

What is CO2 Laser Resurfacing?

CO2 laser resurfacing is a procedure that corrects skin texture by reducing the appearance of wrinkles, acne scars, and other abnormal skin textures. A concentrated laser is used to remove small layers of skin bit by bit. CO2 lasers specifically target deeper skin issues, such as more noticeable wrinkles.

What are the benefits of CO2 laser treatment?

CO2 laser treatment is performed with a non-ablative laser, which has better results that ablative, non-fractional lasers. CO2 lasers treatments create little discomfort and allow for a much quicker recovery. Results also last longer over time as the laser improves skin texture.

What type of conditions can laser resurfacing treat?

CO2 laser treatments can improve skin texture and tone, reduce the appearance of deep wrinkles, and improve fine lines. This procedure can also treat acne scars and sun damage. CO2 lasers can potentially treat skin lesions that may turn cancerous.

Who is a good candidate for CO2 Laser Resurfacing treatment?

Anyone with skin concerns such as minor scarring, wrinkles, or fine lines is a good candidate for CO2 laser treatments. If you have severe acne, this may not be the best treatment for you. Darker-skinned patients can receive this treatment, but it is more effective on lighter-skinned patients.

What is the average cost of treatment?

The average cost of treatment is usually around $1500-$2000. Medical insurance will not cover the cost as CO2 laser treatment is considered a cosmetic procedure. The cost of your treatment can vary based on the required amount of sessions.

How many treatments will I need?

Most patients only need one or two treatments in order to see the desired results. If there are severe wrinkles or sun damage, more treatments might be necessary. Typically, CO2 laser treatments are short term treatments.

How long will each treatment take?

Each session will take roughly thirty to forty-five minutes. If you need a larger surface area treated, the process can take an hour to two hours.

How far apart are treatments?

If you need more than one treatment, the follow-up treatments usually take place a week after the first treatment. There is some downtime required for these treatments, as the skin needs to heal. If the skin is irritated in any way, your doctor may require more time in between treatments.

What should I expect before the treatment?

Prior to treatment, you should have a consultation with your doctor. You should also research specialists in your area and request consultations with their practices as well. Your doctor or specialist will work with you to determine if you’re a good candidate for the treatment and how many sessions you will need.

What should I expect after the treatment?

After the treatment you may experience some swelling. Your doctor may instruct you to sleep with your head elevated or to use ice packs to assist with the swelling. Some doctors will also prescribe steroids to aid in reducing the swelling. Approximately 24 hours after treatment, you will need to begin cleaning the treated areas. Treated areas should be cleansed several times a day and protected with an ointment such as petroleum jelly to prevent scabbing.

How can I prepare for treatment?

Do not take any medications that act as blood thinners or that assist with blood clotting for two weeks prior to the laser therapy. Smoking can affect the healing process, so you should not smoke for the two weeks prior to and after the appointment. Protect your skin from the sun by wearing sunscreen daily and limiting sun exposure.

How permanent is the treatment?

CO2 laser treatments are permanent. The procedure will not prevent new wrinkles or sun damage from appearing, but the treated areas will not revert back. You can prevent future damage by wearing a good sunscreen daily and using a line of skin care products routinely.
